Hi guys. Long time, no see. How have you been? Have a question for you: Can you increase the resolution of the geolocation image that you place in a sketchup drawing? It doesn't seem to be as good as the view in Google Earth.

SU 8 gets the imagery from Google Maps (most of the times but not alwas this is the same as in GE) but no, you cannot change it at all. When it was (used to be) taken from GE, you could even play around with switching between different "historic" imagery shots (sometimes older images are better resolution) but of course then it was greyscale and you had to swap the image in SU for the colour one (exported from GE).

Last time I used this earlier this year, if you select a smaller area the resolution is better. I combined sharper resolution at the site with a lower resolution surrounding. Also may be possible to tile smaller hi-res sections. Still, it was only so good in any case.

The resolution is exactly what you see in the preview (Add Location dialog). It just takes a screenshot. That means for getting a terrain of a wider area, you would not zoom out (rather zoom in), but resize the dialog to the maximum (if possible even bigger than the screen).

However then the limit is that SketchUp displays textures at 1024px maximum (or 2048 if enabled).

Attempts to take several screenshots by any automated way (not manual) were not yet successful.
