Im having a hard time with Push & Pull, while working with layered components or groupes, the above pic is just an example of my current learning struggles.

Im getting back to my woodworking, that hardwood. aAso doing custom computer case designs.

Im super green with Sketchup, and looking for a good forum for some feedback and learning.

EDIT, let me know if I need to scale my images?

    THX

      Hi SilverLight and welcome.

I'd suggest that you try and work in Perspective mode rather than Parallel. Its much easier on the eye and one of the main strengths of SketchUp over other 3D apps.

You can change views under, Camera > Perspective

What happens when you push-pull? Can you isolate the problem pre-conditions? (Find a way it always works then see what's different when it doesn't.)

        Welcome! Peter

(You might use the native forum attachment method for your images, especially for ones like this where fine rendering isn't the object. That way it will always fit well. You may just have to change the pixel size below 1600x 1600.)

Or at least use the [xxl-img] tag (as I now edited your post) which will "shrink" you image in a viewable size and make it clickable.

Hm... Layers and groups/components... I believe we could find out what the problem is if you actually uploaded the model itself and describe those "learning struggles" you mention better.

And of course, welcome to SCF! I hope you are in the right place now. 😉

Bellow, the rear pic of the 2nd layer of the push and pull:

As of the last pic, this is where Im not understanding the push and pull?

              Knight,

Others may do better than me, but I think that it would be easier for people to suggest things if you explained what is wrong with the picture (what are you trying to do that is not there) and posted the SketchUp file in this thread. Even if we see where you are not getting what you want, the particulars of the model cannot be understood by pictures alone.

If these "layers" are groups, pushpull will only work inside a group. It won't affect other groups.

Pushpull comes to "constraints" as it moves into secondary faces, where faces are not square, or some geometry connected to the P-P face would be impossible (illogical) were the face to move further. If I were puzzling over such a thing I might turn on "color by axis" in Styles ( Style window: "Edit, Edges tab, Color: by axis") to see how my object edges are aligned (assuming they are related to the model axes at all).

Also are you modeling in parallel projection? I find perspective view is easier to work in, in most cases. Parallel has particular uses, mostly for the orthogonal views.

              Please try posting the file.

              Good luck. Peter
