Hello guys I need a plugin that would allow me to draw a series of boxes and convert them into components based on the fields contained in an excel or csv file. The file would have four fields:
1 description/item ( that would be used for component definition or name)and
      2-Height
      3-Width
      4-Depth
      for the box dimension

This is to generate a catalogue of products (in my case they will be cigar boxes) that I can later apply textures to and use to do a shop planogram or to populate a cigar cabinet or walk-in humidor with products.
Perhaps a similar plugin is already available and someone can point me in the right direction so any help would be highly appreciated.
For a better understanding you can see our website: http://www.cigarsolutions.uk.com
      Many thanks

        Sergio,

Attached plugin should do what you want. Assumes one cigar box comma seperated data per line,ie Name,Height,Width,Depth.

Create Cigar Box component from CSV data file

Nothing is worthless, it can always be used as a bad example.

My guess is you might want to commission someone for this. Generally folks here are trying to learn and help others with learning SketchUp; they make their bucks on the side. I understand your need and others may as well, though I personally would have to invest considerable time to learn how to help you (and have no time for it). Perhaps you want to learn SketchUp, more from the ground up rather than for just a one-off. Perhaps not. Good luck.

I think you misinterpreted completely my request. I have been using Sketchup for many years and consider myself and advanced user but unfortunately don't have the brains for getting into ruby scripting or programming like other very talented people in the forum that have provided so many excellent tools to make sketchup a decent 3d modelling software. All I wanted was to automate a process that is quite tedious otherwise, when you have many Skus. The reason I asked is because it could be useful to other people who work with products that they need displaying in a retail environment.

In any case I thank you for your reply

              Hi Sdmitch

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I loaded the script in my sketchup plugin folder and it shows fine when I load sketchup but nothing happens when I import the file. Any clues?
              Cheers

The components are created then the initial instance is deleted. If you go to Window>Components and click on the the "little house" to show components in the model, I think you will see them there. If not post the data file you are working with so I can check it out.

Absolutely genius!!! Thank you Sdmitch you have saved me hours of boring work. It is better than I anticipated as this way I can split the file in manageable portions to do 10 or 20 at the time. Maybe you should post this in another place as I can see other people finding many uses for this script.
                  Much appreciated.
                  Sergio
