Speed question

Hey Everyone!
I've been working on a rather complex model recently, and noticed Sketchup starting to slow down quite a bit. I've built larger models before (this is only a 7MB file, as apposed to some of my 12+MB) and I've not nearly had this much trouble. I am using repetitive pieces, so I was wondering if making them components rather than just "groups" would help.
My current machine is a Toshiba Satellite P775, Intel i7-2670QM 2.2GHz processor, 6 GB Ram. running Sketchup 8.0.1172
I've done my best to clear out any extra and hidden geometries, though it is a pretty high-poly model (compared to what i've done in the past anyways.)Any Hints, Tips, Tricks, would be greatly appreciated. And if you need me to I can attach the file.
Thanks!

Hi Mike, hi folks.

Just ideas.

Components will help. Also layer things so you can turn off and on geometry you aren't modifying. Always work with no shadows or fog. Is your video card set for hardware acceleration?
Other than those items there is no reason your machine should not handle a 12M file with speed. Most of mine are 30M and higher and as long as the model is organized, speed is not an issue at all.

Worth running Goldilocks plugin which will generate a list of geometries in your scene based on "Geometry Density".
ie The amount of faces per unit of space. Generally you want roughly the same "Geometry Density" over the whole model.Countless times I've found an innocent looking piece of "content filler" with wildly over the top polygon counts.

Thank's for the tips everyone!
I'm working on getting the poly count down a bit, and converting other pieces to components. I'll let you know if it helps.
