Making waves and rain drop effects on table tops
-
Hello all,
I've used sketchup to make mostly 2.5d parts to be machined on my cnc machine. Now I'm looking to do something in 3d. I have two table tops I'm trying to make. #1 is a wave starting from one corner of the table and ending at another. #2 is to have rain drop ripples. I've had some limited success using the follow me tool to create the rain drops and the wave. It's just neither of them looks organic enough.
Does anyone have some advice on how to make these kinds of of 3d textures? I've looked for a good tutorial on the matter but mostly what I've found is for rendering.

I've been trying out the Curviloft plugin. It's giving me something closer to what I'm looking for. If one of you plugin guru want to make a water plugin, I'd buy it for sure.

I'd suggest trying out both Artisan (which gives you high-poly organic modelling in SU). Do a Google search for Artisan4sketchup. It's $39 I think; and has an evaluation period.
There's also a heightmap Ruby in the Resources section here. That will produce 3D topolgy based upon the brightness value of individual pixels in a bitmap. Think in terms of concentric blurred circles being transformed into 3D ripples. -
Wow Alan, I'm getting some amazing results using Artisan4sketchup. My first try looks like actual water ripples. Fantastic.
