Wrap design around surface ? i´m stuck

hi,
i wonder how many techniques are available, when i need to wrap face around non-flat surface/faceeg. a mug?i usually import dxf file,then make face (make faces 1.4) and try to stick to the surface of an object.
i know just projection or intersect faces techniques ( design is often much larger/longer than sample below )
is there any other faster way to eg around an object( even non flat and bumpy surface ) please?

just a couple of thoughts here.
there is another harder question, how to put graphic to a outer ball, then to project to inner ball.
