SU Workshop for autistic young adults
-
Hi,
Just after a bit of advice really ....
Myself and a colleague are volunteering and going into a local school to have a couple of hours with some young adults who have moderate learning difficulties and/or autism. The plan is to have a 2 hour SketchUp workshop with them.
We're just trying to plan the session and are wondering if anyone has had experience of this sort of thing? We're going to look into the Project Spectrum initiative and lesson plan (here: https://docs.google.com/View?docid=dcdkdbkp_0c88w7ndd) but it would be great to hear any tips/advice etc.
Any thoughts or ideas greatly sppreciated.
Thanks,
Lee
EDIT: Forgot to say, the children are 14/15 years of age.

Just a polite bump in case anyone who could help has missed it.

That's great Lee, well done to you and your friend. Rich and I are also looking into doing some work to this end in our neck of the woods.
As regards advise! There is not much I can advise only to play it by ear. I have come across few videos on the subject that I think might give you an idea of how it works for kids with various forms of autism. Check this one out, 'SketchUp for persons with Autism sessions' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG6fQ_mV_JA
