Too bad the attached model is not textured, I'm guessing the textures were commercial and could not be shared.

The texture is self made in Kerkythea. But the textured model size is about 1.38 MB.
I thought that would be something unacceptable to post in the forum.
If not, I'll attach the textured model too if you'd like to.

Please do, as the chair needs those textures to be awesome, I normally make a low resolution proxy texture and in my render app i exchange it for the higher resolution one.

How to lower the model size with texture?
Are you saying that we should use downgraded image file to use in SketchUp? That makes sense
I'll change the resolution for use next time.

Really nice work

I have a question - why is it that you can see thru the rotan in both photos, but in the first one it casts a solid shadow, but in the second one the spaces between the rotan cast no shadow?

I guess the first one is raw SU output and SU cannot handle image transparency but will cast a solid shadow. The second one is already a render.

the second one have a texture of a woven rotan. made into Kerkythea material with clip map.

Not at all Irwin. I just don't have much of an eye when it comes to rendering (or anything else for that matter)

One thing I noticed, there are a lot of "fighting faces" where the components overlap each other

that's how they tied those rotan bars. there is no other way around to make it smaller, either in file size or poly count. i did that on purpose, trying to mimic how people tied them up. i might try to erase one part. but that might seems to be a not well tied up rotan bar. thought that way i decrease the need to make bigger components, etc

here's one of the picture i took as an example. i know you are very good at modelling complex things like car. perhaps you can teach me how to do the chair model in a better way.
