You said free.... only one truly free engine called Kerkythea, all others are limited by features or resolution.

If the limited resolution is not a problem, there are a few out there. I just had a chance to try the free maxwell plugin, and its user interface is quite easy to use.

Limited resolution is okay, but Maxwell is just working for 30 days, too.

I don't know what to think about Kerkythea.

I believe there are two versions of the Maxwell plugin - one is the paid version with resolution up to HD, and a completely free version that is resolution up to 800px and some other reduced capacities.

If you try Kerkythea, be sure to download the presentation-quality clay render presets, you can find them near the bottom of this forum topic:

would this link provide some information on those?

πŸ‘Š i can't find my Maxwell anymore in the Recycle Bin. just read the info to use Silverlight 3-4, instead of 5 on the site. that's probably why it didn't work out for me.
anyone knows where to get Silverlight 3-4?

You are right. I was looking at the "Render Suite". Didn't realize those are two different products.

                  Thank you. πŸ‘

Hi. I've used Podium occasionally for years but never been overwhelmed. I decided to try the Maxwell Standalone a few days ago however because I had downloaded Netflix the day before I've been unable to use Maxwell. The reason is because Netflix needs Microsoft Silverlight 5. Maxwell cannot use Silverlight 5 only Silverlight 3 or 4. Maxwell has an uninstall patch for 5 however if you Google this, you will find lots and lots of pages where Mac users cannot get rid of Silverlight 5. I've even had 2 emails from the guy who developed Maxwell and we've been thru Terminal commands and so forth but even though it looks as if Silverlight is trashed when you try to install Silverlight 4, it flatly refuses to because it says there is a newer version on the Mac!! As I'm writing this, the guy from Maxwell, Jeremy has just emailed again to say that it is something he has asked Google to fix and has had no reply. He says he is going to try and work out an alternative and to come back sometime in the future. It's a great shame because Maxwell looks good. Does anyone know of a solution or recommend another similar priced renderer? Cheers!!

I installed Silverlight 4 on 10.6.x without a problem. So I guess deinstalling Silverlight 5 leaves something on your machine. If not installing without being connected to the net could help.

The links for the working versions are on MWs FAQ page for MW for SU.

                          Seems Twillight has a free demo version : 800 * 600 ?

The more easy is Lumion πŸ˜‰ the new free version will be in few days!
                          Animation : Max 1280 x 720
Output to print resolution images Max 1920 x 1080

But the best without limitation is Blender πŸ˜‰
Not sure it's very easy but if you stay in render part that can be a must! πŸ˜‰

                            Hi there Nick,

Sorry, I wasn't here when you post the reply. I've already have the Silverlight actually. Buried down into several level of folders.
Well, after some tries I gave up Maxwell free. Still with KT only now.

                            Thank you Nick
