How do I integrate a sketchup model in a photo ?
-
Hi out there.
This is the story: I have a photo of a modern house and its farmland soroundings. several houndred years ago there was a small stone house on the site. I want to remove the modern house and replace it with the stone house. ( that I recreated in sketchup ) This is not so difficult using Photoshop, but to make it look good is another thing. I have been looking in around in utube to try to find a good tutorial on how to do this, but there are houndreds of them out there, and I dont find anything useful. do anyone of you know where to find a good tutorial. The thing I am after is something like the "integrating" techniques they use in History channel when they are placing old buildings in "modern" soroundings. (I want this to be done on a photo only, and not as an animation)Best regards

PhotoMatch could be used here although probably the modern (and bigger?), new house would be still apparent.

Something like davidh´s post processing tutorials? http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewforum.php?f=351
Also see what Aerilius says here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=22633&p=190769#p190769 -
Also there is Inpaint which does a pretty good job removing things. It has a (bit limited) online (but free) version, too: "webinpaint".

For basic photomatch methods use Aidan's videos. http://www.go-2-school.com/media/view/150 and http://www.go-2-school.com/media/view/149 --this is based on making a model from the photo.
The go-2-school video describes an existing model and an existing photo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTFQrJQlByA
There is a photoshop method, perhaps a plugin that removes whole houses etc. pretty convincingly. It was noted here but I can't find a link. Maybe others can remember or figure out how to dig it up. Other than that you'd need to use a little artistry (like strategically placed bushes and peasants etc. and clone stamp) to remove the house. You can tell I am NOT a PS pro... David's posts noted above are helpful.

Jacktar, are you having a problem getting the perspective to match, removing the modern house and patching the hole that is left or just getting subtle lighting clues and entourage elements to integrate with the image. Could you show us the images that you are working with?
