Airplane tutorials?
-
Fancy giving myself a bit of a challenge over christmas, and want to model a WW2 bomber. I usually model buildings and the like so want to gen up on my other skills before attempting such a project. I'm sure I've seen some good airplane modelling tuts on here, but can't for the life of me find any.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks, and sorry to be a pain.

Lancaster maybe?
Anyway, this is worth checking out IMO: http://richard.ferriere.free.fr/index.html
As for the tutorial, Anders Lejczak´s site is a valuable resource too: http://www.colacola.se/
Although he is a C4D/Modo user, the principles are similar and will give you a hint about how to model an airplane.I believe that you´ll find Fredo´s Curviloft particularly useful in joining contours (i.e. cross sections - and you´ll find a lot of them in the "3-views drawings" section of the former link) along the given rail.
Happy sketching! Keep us posted!

Hey guys,
Thanks very much for your comments, much obliged. I think I must blink at the wrong time when searching, I never seem to come across what I'm after! Thanks again though, I will be sure to check out all of the links.
Numbthumb, extra thanks to you for the advice, also, I;ve actually got my eye on modelling a Stirling Bomber. There was a WW2 RAF base next to my grandad's house, and he always used to tell me about how on one night in October, an unfortunate Stirling came down along the main street in his village killing all the crew and his friend, who was the postmaster. Incredible story and its stayed with me for a long time. Found some images of it on the-blueprints.com (here: http://www.the-blueprints.com/blueprints/ww2planes/ww2english/42608/viewsingle/short_stirling/) and hopefully they will be good enough to model from.
Cheers.

That´s a very sad story, but than again something to get inspired by - I´m looking forward to seeing your Stirling in the Gallery. Especially because (AFAIK)
not a single example survived, even the manufacturer's drawings have been destroyed.I´ve got a few links here, like http://www.stirlingproject.co.uk/ and http://nrichards38.free.fr/Files/Short-Stirling.htm with some really nice drawings and reference images, as well as links to other interesting sites.
Hope you´ll find them useful.
Best regards,

That good knowledge you have there NT, very impressed.
Thanks for the links, both seem great resources.
I guess I need to find out which of the Stirlings crashed, seems likely it was a Mk1 or a MkIV. I may contact the guys on the links you have kindly provided as can't seem to find anything on the web.
Thanks again, I will be sure to post up my WIP on the gallery (if its good enough, which is my no means certain!)

A marvelous site about Planes' modelisation
-
No problem, I´m glad I could help.
A little OT - during my visit to UK in 1999 I spent a couple of days in Woking. My host was a kind, older gentleman, a true aviation aficionado.
Needles to say, we had some great talks. But I still regret that I didn´t have a chance to meet his neighbour, who was a tailgunner during WW2 (and I cannot for the life of me remember what plane did he fly)
My,my. You can imagine his story...So, yes, I´m very interested in your project. Keep us posted!
Cheers!
