Edge Color by Material - Shading

I've searched, but have not found any post that addresses this question:
Is it possible for edges (color by material) to be shaded by the sun?
As you can see in the attached image, edges in shade or shadow are unaffected and stand out too much.

In entity info, SketchUp shows only a checkbox "cast shadows" but not "receive shadows" (both are available for other drawing elements). It seems impossible (except of turning edges off).
