Vehicle Tracking and Swept Paths
-
Hi All,
I would be interested to hear from SU users on how they handle vehicle tracking and swept paths on site plans they are developing. To date I have generally used static dwg's of various vehicles and inserted into the SU file or in layout. It all comes unstuck when tracking a reversing truck or car. May be someone is developing a plugin for this, that would be fantastic. -
I use a free program called Bricsturn http://www.glamsen.se/BricsTurn.htm which I run alongside Bricsys (an Autocad alt. http://www.bricsys.com fully func. 30day trial). I'm not a programmer but a swept-path program might be quite a chunky plugin - if anyone were to write one.
It's pretty good and you can add more vehicles: (I put my truck in for instance -altho' you can't new new icons! - nothing fashionable about a luton van).
Bricsturn may require an MS addon to run http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/confirmation.aspx?id=22276.
They also produce something more generic called MS Turn, but I couldn't get it to run, but it may run on Acad.

Sounds promising Tomas - what is the cost? It would be great if you charged on a job basis as many designers are only likely to need this occasionally - but when we need a solution, we really need one.

Hi unearthed, sorry for the slow response (seems my original reply dissapeared). Our new online solution (AutoTURN Online) will offer SketchUp users the solution you mention. Besides a yearly subscription you can also choose for a 1 month subscription, that could save single time users a lot of money.
The cost will depend on your region and ´vehicle libraries´ used. For 1 month use with 1 vehicle library the pricing would be in the range of $70-$120.
It was officially launched last week and should provide a swept path solution for SketchUp users. We do not yet support all regions but we do support yours (NZ).
You can currently test it for free before your purchase at http://www.autoturnonline.com
