Video flickering...
-
I have exported a SU animation and the trees flicker badly. Is this the shadow bug or what am I doing wrong. I would upload it but it's 100 megs. I figure someone on here has dealt with this before. Any help is appreciated.

Compress it with Handbrake (free, easy to use) before uploading it to YouTube so we can give it a look.
Here's Handbrake. Just stick to default settings:

If your bandwidth allows, 100Mb is a piece of cake on YT. The other day I uploaded a 300Mb file. So yes, please, upload it first. What SU version do you have? In the latest maintenance release of v.8 the fixed the shadow bug!

thanks for looking at it. In particular the trees flicker almost all the time, but at about 0:40 thru 1:30 it gets really bad with things flashing.
I'm on the most current release of SU, and have done many animations before without this problem.

Yes, I can see that flickering. Also antialiasing is not the nicest and on the right, it seems somehow that the whole screen is "smeared" somehow in a thing stripe.
There are a couple of things you can try - I am not sure they will help.
- There is a "shadow strings fix" toolbar (a single button) under View > Toolbars (somewhere at the bottom). Activate it and see if that helps.
- Go to your styles dialog > in model > edit > face style tab and set transparency to nice. If there are transparent images among those face me components, this may help.
- for the AA issue, I'd suggest to export as image sequence at a 2x size then batch resize those images and compile the video in a 3rd party editor. It will give much nicer results than the built in AA engine and codecs in SU.

Looks like z-fighting to me. Check you don't have 2 instances of tree on top of each other in the same position.
So check the ComponentInstances and that you haven't messed the Definitions.

Just exported another animation with all the improvements mentioned above and it is exactly the same. I'm going to chalk this up to SU just being SU and move on.
Thanks for the help.

Do you have any transparency on the trees? If you do, turn it off and that might help. Atlernatively, you don't have that many trees; could you swap them for low-poly 3D?
