Hi can anyone help?
I use sketchup for stage set modelling. When I design something I want to be able to change the size of the model in MM. example: If I make a box that is 300mm long, 200mm wide & 100mm deep and then find I need it to be 250mm long 200mm wide (unchanged) and 50mm deep. how does one do it?I know one can use scale but that only allows you to change it by percentage, I would like to change by using sizes. the reason being is that when making something I want to be able to use the sizes that wood metal etc comes in ie 19mm x70mm ( or 3inches x 1inch) etc etc

Hi Shelly,
When you use the scale tool and do not define the unit, it will indeed scale by a factor (percentage). But if you also add the unit, it will scale to that exact unit like
200mm. Certainly this is only working correctly when you are scaling by one of the side grips so you will need to scale multiple times if you want to scale every dimension. -

if it's already detailed, I'd use 'scale tool' as described above, but for simple forms I'd use 'push/pull' or 'move' on the individual faces.
if you have complex shapes 'Fredo Scale' is a must.

Exactly. With the Tape measure tool you can achieve very accurate scaling very quickly - although "only" uniformly.

And yes, that's the ultimate solution.
Dynamic components would also work but that's a pro-only feature plus it takes quite a while to set them up and for a one-time use component, it may not be worth the effort.

No need to perform three separate scaling operations.
Using SketchUp'S Help Menu and typing "scaling precisely", without the quotes, in the search box will yield:

That does not work for me as I would need to type a semicolon ; (instead of the comma) to separate the values and it involves using Ctrl as a mod key. For the same reason, I cannot move either to relative or absolute co-ordinates.
The SU Team did not think of things like this when designing SU. About 2/3 of the world's population cannot use these commands I would risk to say.
