Ok , there are many of us out there with the same annoying problems when it comes to creating characters in sketchup, i have seen many examples of rigging a character in sketchup but its not quite the character rigging im looking for, for example in blender and many oher 3D softwares, once you rig a character it becomes easier to create movements in a realistic way, also if you move a joint in the character the surface geometry also moves and changes to the movement, im worthless when it comes to writing script for sketchup and we have all seen very impressive plugins out there so far, but is it that difficult to create a plugin in sketchup which can addreass this issue, i have used keyframe technics in the past and come up with fantastic results but its far too time consuming, rigging a character would be far more practical, an ideal plugin, lets say its called "Sketchup Character Builder" a plugin with all the needs to build, rig, animate and even give commands,if a character you build and rig is all you have to do and the plugin will already have built in walkcycles, run cycles, jump, crawl, kick, punch....etc...

Please Sketchup God, if your out there listen to my prayer, give us a "Sketchup Character Builder" Plugin or if anyone out there already knows of a plugin or plugin in sketchup which can help provide the needs of animating characters please tell me, im not looking for other outside programs like iclone where i need to learn everything, i want to create my character animations in sketchup, render them and export as a video file, and just another topic i would like to add, i have seen an example of a plugin in the making which gives a componant sound, for example a jet engine, and the futher the camera is from the componant the sound becomes more faint, and loader when closing in on the componant, did this plugin ever become a final product or was it just a hoax??

thank you for taking the time to read my top wishlist, my only wish, looking forward to hearing your views on this idea

What about Sketchyphysics? Can any of that be applied to your needs? Just a thought.

Unfortunately no, sketchphysics doesnt forfill my needs, for example heres a link of what im looking for in sketchup

take note once you move a joint in the rig the whole geometry in the area changes to the movement automaticlly

Only in the last yr or so we have being gving software from Artisan to build characters in sketchup but theres not yet a way to rig them where as geometry changes to movement, Heres some more examples

And be able to creat animation like these following links in sketchup independantly

I hope this explans more what is missing from sketchup, is it that hard to creat a plugin that can do these actions with ease, imagine creating a street with characters animated walking up and down the streets, it is already posible to creat cars driving alone roads want what not but there are no freatures for character animation with walkcycles and so on

            I do understand your point.
I assume you have used Blender. If not, you should investigate it. It is a full featured, open source application for character modeling, rendering, scene creation, animation, movie production. All of the "modes" are native to the application. I suspect that writing all of those capabilities in Ruby for Sketchup would be a monstrous task. I have seen opinions stating that Ruby, nice as it is, would be too slow to accomplish this. And, I have no idea what the Sketchup developers have planned.

Hmm, been down this road before: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=15952&hilit=rigging

Still so rigging for SU, but I do understand as it would be very difficult to achieve.

Blender and 3dsMax is the best solution for now.

Wow so this has being an ongoing topic for some time now, this cant be, why doesnt google do something about this, theres so much more that can be done with sketchup if this feature existed, i dont think google relise how important this is to so many others out there, they should addreas this issue, i know there are other programs out there designed to do these animations like Blender, 3DMAX, but i have created models in sketchup and i would like to keep using sketchup for my creations instead of learning to use another outside program to do so
