    Hello,

I'be been happily using layout but suddenly the lines, dimensions and text I try to place ON my model seem to be behind it. I'm guessing it has something to do with "arrange" bring forward etc, but can't seem to stop it from happening. I don't know what I did to make it change like this?

are your dimensions on a separate layer?
move that layer above the 'model' layer.
layers act like trace paper - a layer on top will show on top of what is below.

my typical layers look like this:

      notes
numbers (for part numbers / piece identification)
      dimensions
whiteout (for blocking out parts of geometry / etc.)
      model2 (secondary, detail model views)
      model1 (primary model views)
titleblock2 (page specific information - usually just text)
titleblock1 (on every page - includes page frame, logo, etc.)

        Thats right, Sally.

As bmike said, your layer structure should appear in the list as though you want to see it from the top down. In other words, put those layers that you want to appear underneath everything at the bottom and the layer at the top will appear on top of everything.

Remember you can also arrange elements within the same layer just by 'moving forward or backward'

Let us know how you go.

          Hi guys!

thanks so much, I knew it had to be something simple! I'd moved from working on the default layer to another one, everything's fine now.

Sally you should really think about upgrading to SketchUp 8 as Layout 3.0 has some really neat additions!!

              Hi Andrew,

I already have SU 8, but as you may be able to tell, I am fairly new to using Layout. I hadn't used it in any previous versions, so I am not sure what the additions are, they're all I know!

              thanks again, best rgds, Sally

It's a pretty clever program, Sally. Dimensioning has been enhanced somewhat as well as precise move options which allow you to format elements on your page exactly how you want...
