      Hi,

Anyone know what it means to have, in SketchUp OpenGL preferences, the "Use hardware acceleration" checked but grayed out.

Does this mean SketchUp is or isn't using hardware acceleration? I'm guessing it means "you've asked for hardware acceleration but SketchUp couldn't make it work".

Any ideas? And any way of solving this? Gaieus, I saw you post on Google forums about this related to Windows...

I can't remember the post Adam (maybe could you link?). I used to have a cheap ATI card where no matter what I checked, the performance was the same (and there was no AA setting or something available). I guess it was somewhere on the border of not helping at all but at least not messing things up. But then again, it was Windows...

Thanks Gaieus, I didn't explain it very well..

What I meant was what does it signify if SketchUp overrides your "Use hardware" checkbox by graying it out.

I have consulted with the splendid Sketchup team and they confirm that if SketchUp determines that using this card would trigger a known driver bug, they ignore the "Use hardware" request and gray it out.

Adam, despite my post count here, I am just an average user (user ❗ ) of the program. What I gather from the SketchUp / video subsystem configuration is exactly what you say: if SU determines that the card is not capable of supporting OpenGL, they will (by default) turn HD acceleration off. According to the amount of forum topics dealing with video card / driver problems however, this automatic checking is far-far-away from being perfect.

Now that's what me - as a forum regular here or elsewhere - can add to this question. I do not know any of the technical details (especially on driver configuration level)

              Hi folks.

On my Mac Book Pro with AMD card, the "Hardware acceleration" check box is not greyed out.

              Just ideas.

an iMac with shared video solution?

SU needs a fully OpenGL v1.5 compliant video subsystem, preferrably a dedicated one not using the working memory of the system.

run the MacOS update ("Apple Menu > Software Update") for getting the latest video driver for your system.
