At least it's not just the police in this country who seem to be power crazed. Maybe Mr. Cellar was never a child.

Doesn't England have special consideration for crimes by children? In the US, in most cases like this, the juvenile delinquent's record would purged when he turns 18.

I've got no time for the Daily Mail...just a scandal rag. But in this case, given that they've given this story so much prominence, if I was the lads father I'd get onto them and see about enlisting their help ( ie cheque book) in prosecuting the police for a gross waste of public money and misrepresentation of the law. How can it be a criminal offence when there was zero criminal intent?
This beats the story of a few days ago; of them using thermal imaging, helicopters, tranquilizer guns and animal experts...to hunt down an abandoned cuddly tiger in a hedgerow.

Dunno. But as Alan points out, this wasn't a crime to begin with. I'd not be dancing with joy if a kid put a ball trough one of our windows, but I certainly wouldn't call the police. (And what were they thinking?!)
If people cannot work these sort of incidents out amongst themselves, something's wrong.
