      Thanks, Bryan K, SketchupNoobie.
nothing in SU except the cubes-scene and raw 2d export. What are other options? To download something from 3dwh ? (not made in SU either) To use artisan plugin? SU isn't a sculpting tool, better use it to set up a scene and fill it with sculpts.
But I repeat, SketchupNoobie, have you checked meshmixer app? πŸ˜‰

        @Pilou
why not? Soon, but I'll probably export everything to blender-cycles.

new sculptris, meshmixer, new blender-cycles, all these for free (+SU)... not so bad eh?

I have not tried the Meshmixer app. I played with Sculptris a little but my organic modelling talents are nonexistent. That's why stuff like this always amazes me.

That being said however, I don't think this belongs here. If none of the workflow is done in SketchUp, I think you should show your models elsewhere. And no, I don't count importing into SketchUp and exporting as a 2d image, 'part of the workflow.'

This is just my opinion. I hope I have not upset you in the slightest. I just wanted to point out how tired others and I am of 3D Warehouse imports and stuff like that.

I am not trying to take anything away from your beautiful model. It really is spectacular. And the fact that I can do nothing in that field only makes it more incredible. πŸ‘ πŸ‘

I'm also tired from the SU community when leads this fine app to a road of non existence.
Good computing means inputs and outputs, imports and exports. Workflow. Chain. To understand how to produce useful topology.
SU is a simple app after all. A very useful sometimes. It's a shame that you have to pay for a decent obj export though.

Thanks SketchupNoobie, I hope I didn't upset you either.

Absolutely! But it just seems to me that you import into SketchUp just so you can post your works in this forum. You don't seem to do any actual modelling in SketchUp. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

I know how you love blender. Can the two be compared?

Not at all. meshmixer as sculptris are helper apps, for sculpting mostly. Blender is a standalone app.

It is lovely work and I don't mean to take anything away from Michalis' art. However, this is a SketchUp forum.

Please don't understand me wrong. Of course, I know that SketchUp cannot do everything and that for many projects, other programs are a whole lot more useful. I also realize that using a variety of programs, even on one project, can make everything go a whole lot more smooth and quick. However, this being a SketchUp forum, I believe most things posted in here should have at least part of the workflow done in SketchUp.

What about a subsection of the Gallery dedicated to 'Other Modelling Software'? That would definitely be a cool forum. πŸ˜„

By your definition only sketchup output should be posted in the gallery.

That leaves out an awful lot of Renders.

Yes it's a sketchup forum, but it is a Forum! a place for like minded people to discuss things of similar interest.
And besides that, Michalis does use sketchup, and I for one find it interesting and informative the way he is able to combine various techniques and bring them together in sketchup.

As I remember, we had a discussion about digital sculpting, a dedicated topic, even a classroom , why not? There're excellent and free apps around. Importing to SU isn't so complicated as it looks. Just this limitation of 64k tri meshes.

                              My two cents:
I wish for Michalis to continue posting his work and thoughts. Diverse ideas reduce stagnation.
Specifically on the horse head: I like your style and sense of proportion. Again, diversity in perception. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ A window into your creative mind.

SketchupNoobie has a point though. A more dedicated topic could be nice. I like the forum, thats all.
In fact, I started learning (and buying) many sculpting apps, all the 'dirty' tricks as baking hi res to low meshes etc, all this impulse came from modeling and texturing in SU.
Just remind you this, when push pull on a texture, trying to fix mapping face by face, lot of fun...
