Sandbox 'Drape' replasement?
-
Hi All,
Are there any plugin that will act same as 'drape' in Sandbox tools?
Sandbox Drape works very bad for me:- it's very slow on big surface
- for some strange reason it deletes existing geometry from surface randomly (also quite far from draped geometry):
I use following workaround now:
- With perfect "Surface Tools" plugin I draw closed area on target surface.
- Create a group with this part of target sufrace.
- Drape face to it. In this case 'Drape' tool has no influence on all other part of target surface. After it ungroup and delete border lines.
This workaroun takes too much time! Can anyone suggest how to drape faces on surface fast and with no strange geometry dissapearing?
Thank in advance,
Alex -
I have found that I am not alone with my problem...
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=35637Seems that "extrudeEdge>Intersect" is best existing solution...

Isn't there something like Component Drop? (this may not be the answer you seek)
I think you want the process to automatically clean up the geometry? -
A quick way to do it is to group your drape object and extrude it downwards right through the terrain. Then you select the faces on the ground you want to cut and use 'Intersect with model'.
If the drape object is not extrudable, ie not flat, you could use TIGs ExtrudeEdgesByVector, or Joint Push Pull. -
Thanks for answers!
I wonder why nobody made a plugin for it yet...

Maybe because it is so quick to do? Max 5 sec if you have your shortcuts set up?
Here's my sequence:
dblclick drape object
g to group
dblclick new group to edit
Ctrl+D to extrude down 100m or whatever
Esc to exit edit mode.
Drag right to left on ground faces around "drape object"
Shift+L to intersect with modelOr for Drape tool:
Drag right to left to select ground faces
g to group
Drape tool (I have no shortcut for this as I don't use it often)
Select ground group
Shift+C to explode groupI can't see how another plugin could do this faster?
BTW, there's no need to do that "Tool_on_surface" thing here - just select faces and group/explode. -

And the sandbox tools are already a set of plugins. Plugins often fail more than native SU tools (for some mysterious reasons)
