Dxf import from different program
-
Hi , I am new here , I found this forum looking for a spline plugin. I did find it and now have to figure out how to use it. Anyway I am trying to import a dxf file from another program , and wonder if there are any tricks to it .

You dont quite explain what you are after.
Is it the best way to set up the CAD drawing prior to skecth up?

I see that you are using Sketchup v6. I read on the Internet that you should be able to import dxf files up to Acad V2007. If your file is higher then v2007, use the translator from ODC to convert it into a compatiable file.

thanks I'll giver it a try .

You are welcome. Often IO dxf from a third party (non Acad) application will not be perfectly accurate. only good enough to suite the needs of that third party application. Although far better then most, even the SketchUp Dxf translator has small flaws in it. Here is my take on part of the problem, if you are interested.

IMO the best free application to handle AutoCad files if you don't have AutoCad is the free DWG TrueView from Autodesk. It can open, view and print every DWG or DXF variety, and it can convert them down to older formats, even to version 10 (late 1980s), if I remember right.
