There are a couple threads regarding the long-standing issue of trying to forcefully delete materials ( http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=36909&view=unread#unread ). Namely, the issue is when you right click a material in the materials panel, it takes an unreasonable amount of time for the context menu to pop up which allows you to delete the material (note, we're talking about materials that are in scene so purge doesn't take care of them)

I wonder if this could be an issue our ruby developers would be willing to solve. I'm thinking about just a window that pops up with a list of all the materials (either graphically or just a list of names) where you could choose a number of them to delete. There's maybe a more elegant solution, but just something simple that gets the job done would be a big improvement.

You could use the Material Replacer plugin: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=26013
Use the tool to pick the material you want to replace and replace it with the Default material. Then Purge the model.
