      Gazebo
This is a humble beginning with the object being a gazebo readily available at DIY stores. Today it is freezing cold here in Phoenix or I would be out photographing the backyard so I can drop the gazebo into my own environment. I expect a problem with the homeowner's association as they say no gazebo's per the CC&Rs. On the other hand all the neighboring areas allow gazebos and google earth does show a few gazebos in my area. Considering summer temps can exceed 115 degrees F and are almost always over 100 for 3-4 months, I think it is unreasonable not to allow shade structures.

They also did not allow solar panels but that was finally thrown out in court as it is government policy to encourage solar development. So I am thinking that this amounts to passive solar. It also might be worth thinking about reroofing the gazebo with solar panels.

Interestingly the surrounding areas with gazebos have a higher average property valuation.

It does kind of look like a trellis, doesn't it?

No, I don't live in America, I live in Arizona. πŸ˜„

Nice. I really like the curved roof lines.

Solar? It would be interesting to see this designed for it.

Bryan, solar does have a lot of potential. In fact, it would be interesting to see what could be done with some of the new flexible solar material.

The curves worked out reasonably well but I had a strange problem. I started with 1/8the roof fabric. I just connected the vertexes of my curves (line segments)with lines until it was all triangulated. Then I mirrored to create a second panel. I had used smoothing and the first 1/8th looked smooth. However when I mirrored, two lines that should have been smoothed showed hard lines.I figured that would disappear when I got around to making a render and just photoshopped the SU drawing to hide the lines.

Baz, I see the Arizona comment is appreciated even in Aus. β˜€

I have strange things like this happen as well sometimes. I just chalk it up to either SU or my PC and keep on going. 😎

Roger, looking good. Your probably hoping those 115 degree days hurry up and get here.
Since part of my job gets me involved with planning departments, and design guidelines, I wish you luck.

I am guessing that you refer to our status as the lunatic conservative racist gun capitol of the Southwest.

Well as a Canadian I am burdened by that overwhelming politeness that our nation succumbs to, therefore I would never have said such a thing.
But now that you mention it... ya, that's what I was referring to. πŸ˜„
