Variable plugin idea
-
Sorry for intruding cause I know nothing about writing plugins
, but have an idea about one.
Could it be doable to enter variable instead of number in a box in SU.
Software looks in a predefined table of variables, which is changeable
.
For example I define roofs of a house with variable X, and later in a table I can edit the value of X,
and make quick changes of my roofs geometry...something like global parameter? -
That sounds like parametric modeling...known in Sketchup as Dynamic Components
Too bad they are not as easy to use as the rest of SU
-
There is a big difference - this is global and integrated in usual workflow without the need of defining special components.

There is something called " Driving Dimensions" from Ledas, where you can change the dimensions and the Objects will follow.
Maybe this helps http://drivingdimensions.com/SketchUp/faq.php -
Burkhard, thanks for the link. That's it in general...But!..except that in Driving dimensions you have all this dimensions sticked to geometry,
and one dimension for one geometry - it is not TEMPLATE, or STANDARD that is one for all geometry which I was thinking about.
For example roofs of 50 different houses. You only have to edit one variable X which is entered in simple SketchUp way by entering
X instead of number in dimension box while creating roofs.- You don't have a mess of dimensions around.
- You don't have to call new command, just type X instead of number.
- One variable to rule them all
. - ...and of course it's free!

You want Revit for free?
-
...if you can make it...
guess it's not easy
