There is one that rely on third party UV mapping software: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=23725

Could it be possible with the unfold plugin (I haven't tested)?

The plugin allows to unfold faces of a curved shape until they are in a plane. Jim added a function to refold the shape. Originally it was supposed to apply a texture map to the unfolded shape and refold it so that you can texture complicated curved shapes. Here is the version with refold function:
        http://bitbucket.org/jimfoltz/sketchup-unfold-tool/get/tip.zip (see this thread )

The idea is that you have already a textured model. After unfolding, you select all faces, right click, "combine materials" (since SU7.1 if I remember correctly). This will create a new material out of all textured faces, but it works only with planar faces. Finally you would refold it.

            Hi Aerilius,

Indeed it is possible (just do not forget NOT to select to merge coplanar faces when combining faces). There is a topic somewhere (I thought in the Newbie dept but cannot find it there) which deals with exactly this way of combining the textures.
