... give the user info abut the selection they wish to simplify?
Perhaps the average angle of the vertices in the selections set or the max and min angles or how many vertices with specific angle ...?
Could there be a preview of the results of a simplification?
Not sure what would make the most sense but it would be nice to have something to aid the user before they in input an angle.

My Edge Tools has a different simplification technique - no preview though. You specify how the max distance the simplified curve is allowed to deviate form the original.
