Question to D. Bur Heightfield Mesh Generator
-
Hi Didier,
when I read the post from ThomThom about his plugin bitmap to Mesh, i remembered your Plugin Heightfield Mesh Generator. From Photoshop, I saved the pictures as ppm, pgm and raw. But I couldn't manage any of these file types to import. The parameters input box appears, after click OK nothing happened.
Am I doing something wrong? Or does it work only in SKP 6?

That's the reason I made Bitmap to Mesh because I could not make it work either. PhotoShop saves the file formats in binary formats, while Heightfield Mesh Generator requires the ASCII version - which is rather obscure variants which PS doesn't even give an option to use.
I don't know what applications writes to the correct variant of these file types.

XnView (http://www.xnview.com/) writes binary and ascii PPM.

Thanks both of you.

That probably just means it won't work on SU5 - don't think I've yet seen a plugin that didn't work on a newer version of SU.

Yes, a lot of things were changed from 5 to 6 and many plugins were not compatible with the different versions back then.

Hi,
Just tested it with SU 7.1, it works OK. Not tested with SU8, since I'm waiting the french version of it...
BUT if your image size is 602, the resulting mesh will be made of 6026022 triangles= 724808 faces !
Watch the status bar to check what it is doing, the redraw process can be (very) long...
