ADJUSTABLE ERASER SIZE PLUGIN
-
Hi! Is there a plugin for adjusting the eraser's diameter/perimeter? (Similar to brush size control of Photoshop)
Thanks! -
I wondered about that too... I looked and did not find any. Would be a neat feature/plug in though... I hate having to zoom in all the time on certain models, really breaks the flow.

I don't see how that could work in a program like SU. . .(of course, there's a lot I don't see. . .but erasing vectored geometry in SU is not like erasing 2D pixels on a screen a la photoshop.
Maybe it could work. I dunno.

Maybe an eraser similar to the tool in Adobe Illustrator?
If you swipe through a dense area of faces and line, the faces and lines are all cut at the right where the eraser touches them.
I wouldn't use a tool like this often in SketchUp...

Well, I would guess it could just define a larger box to sample. If an entitiy is within the box, it gets deleted even if part of the entitiy is not in the box. So exactly like the eraser tool, just with a bigger sampling area.
I'm not sure it would be that easy to make work though. I think there is a way built into the API to expand that sampling size in your own tools. But I kind of think it is not functioning correctly. But if it does work right, then there is still a problem (I think) of making it only erase objects that are visible on the screen (and not objects hidden by other geometry). Thom has done quite a bit of selection tool work. He would probably know more about it though.

This is a super cool idea. I can imagine it being really useful when using the eraser to hide or smooth as well as when just erasing.

Yes! Especially with Hide or Smooth functions. While we wait for the magic brush, you know you can use the selection tool, click on a series of unwanteds and then press the delete key.

I'd prefer a Hover Face select tool which you could drag across and select every face it touches, then just hit delete. Still waiting for Fredo6 to add faces, groups and components to his Hover Select tool. He already mention that he may add this in his next update.
For large sample smoothing, I just box select an area and use Selection Toys to select only the edges and then Smooth / Soften with the Entity Info window.

Hey, Earthmover:
Thanks for that tip on Selection Toys- I forgot about that. -

Sounds interesting. I'll check it too. Most of my work are imported from a dirty layered CAD (dwg). Most of the time it's rush so I got no time to re create new layered outline. I just erase unnecessary stuff in SKU. I guess this is a big wish but who knows, maybe it'll be out sometime. Cheers!
