Matching a SketchUp View to one in External Render
-
For the cover of this book, they want a SketchUp model to fade into a photo-real rendered version... I've followed Google's instructions here:
http://download.sketchup.com/OnlineDoc/gsu6_win/Content/E-Camera_Tools/Camera-PhotoMatch.htm
But it just doesn't work... I can't even place the origin -- the model's always in the way of the photo.
Is there any way to get the coords, focal length, etc., of SU's camera. so I can set it up in Cheetah?
TIA,

Looks like the same procedure that I was trying to use above, but will study it in more depth later.

@unknownuser said:
- Click and hold the cursor on the origin. The cursor changes to a hand.
- Move the cursor to a distinct origin-like point on photo (where three axes might intersect, such as bottom corner of building).
- Release the mouse button. The origin is established.
- Uncheck the Model checkbox in the Match Photo dialog box. The model will be hidden.
Tim,
Maybe the instructions above, from the URL you posted, need to be turned about and do step 13 first.

I do not use Cheetah, so assume your exporter/importer does not include camera settings right?

I use a few ruby scripts to match the cameras between sketchup and renders. I don't recall the exact names, camera controls? to get the tilt, pan and rotation.
I also use a script that places a construction point at the position of the cameras. I then draw a tiny circle at the point and paint a material named camera# onto that circle.
When I go into whatever render I am using usually Vue.( I can't get the script for Vue cameras to work) I place a camera at the position of the tiny circle that I exported with the model. I then adjust the camera orientation based on my camera settings I read from camera controls. I use the field of view setting from sketchup. Depending on the render you might need to adjust the angles of the camera. If camera control script said the camera was at -30 degrees you might have to enter it as 330 degrees in the render.
Hope that helps.
