Amazing work as usual mate, your patience to do all of this is excellent. Quick question, is most of your halo animation work from imagination? What I mean is this, obviously not a lot of the objects have been created by bungie themselves, so do you get plans from other people off of the internet, or do you essentially create the object yourself. For example, the mobile repair yard has no actual graphical representation as far as I am aware, so did you design this yourself from the books?

Yeas out of the 130 or so models only about five or six are actual official works and concepts the rest from my good old brain. It is patience but its mostly practice that I then apply to my actual work. Working on a Xbox360 game at the moment so haven't had much time for messing about would like to do some work for that but not using sketchup unfortunately it would be impossible.

wow, may i ask what it is you're working on? It's not every day that you hear that someone is working on a game for the 360. Also, what program are you using for it? I've heard of stuff like maya and 3dsmax, but haven't heard of anything able to get stuff across platforms

Its called elysia, its an indie game for the 'xbox live arcade online marketplace'.

I was using 3dsmax which I have been using for years but recently ive been giving modo401 a trial run to see how that performs.
Well most software can get files across formats nearly all software supports the popular 3ds or obj. Software usually has its own specific filename such as .max .skp etc but then they also come with import/export abilities. It is possible to create meshes for games in SU but generally its much easier to create in other software.
Sketchup is great for what it is but if your serious about 3D modeling you should try and learn another piece of software also. I use SU for concept work and quick models but max and modo for the final products. You can pick up the autodesk suite on a student license for Β£140 for the year!

Here is a screen from the game, and here is another avatar universe ship I have been fleshing out:

That's really nice work. πŸ˜„ I think, though, that the shadow seems a bit unrealistic. BTW, what is the file size?

Its not supposed to be realistic was just testing colors really in photoshop, that isnt a render the shadows are intentional.
File size for the model is 8MB so far will probably be over 10 whens its done. My other helicopter was 30-40MB when finished but it had a lot of sub-division this is a lot more blocky.

Been working on this for a few days now. Its been a real bastard to model as every piece of reference models and imagery I download are slightly different. I got a 3dsmax version and one form the warehouse but the geometry is different and little bits are missing off one that appear on another.

I managed to get some really great blueprints from the web but then they dont add up to the production stills etc Grrrr 😞.
My solution was to create one for the USMC as it was described as in the movie, this way I get to take some artistic liberties with the design!
This is about 40 hours in just trying to tackle the tread on the back wheels now, I was struggling with the wheel treads for ages but found a very quick and efficient method.
Rendered in Podium although the blueprints turned out as giant purple squares so I Post pro'd them in at the end as well as the urban digital camo scheme. Still got a lot to do with details maybe another few days.

If I can the the model under 10MB ll put in on the 3D warehouse, and if I cant I can just cut some details off I suppose and upload them in a different file.

Finished mostly, has no engine or rear section yet so no back shots for now!

playing with lighting in podium, my computer takes years to render so the test shots take forever! Ive added a shot of the headlamp placement but im trying to create the garage scene from the dark knight which is taking ages to render, hours and hours! I want it to look something like this:

Managed to sort out a lighting rig at last after many test renders. Instead of illuminating a plane ive illuminated rods behind a light grey sheet with an opacity of 10%. The light rods are set at 10/100 illumination in the podium settings, it worked with 8 light squares but now im attempting it with lots more, hopefully the render will work out well, im expecting it to be at least 3 or 4 hours at 800*600, if it works out ill populate the scene with the tumbler and other things and leave one overnight at a larger resolution.

Decided not to so a garage scene for my tumbler my crappy computer couldn't handle the render. Anyway decided to finish one of the models of my to-do list a red bull air racer!

Well my plane model is nearly finished just waiting on some renders and ill post up the results!
Thought its about time to go mental again and make a huge sketchup crashing model! Been working on it a few hours a day over a week with lots of tweaking its more complicated than it looks with all those panel lines cut into it!

No I am remaking my USS Kelvin since I lost the old file in the great HD crash of yesteryear 😞
The last one was merely a guide for painting however this one is going to go to the extreme! Combined with Octane Renderer I am expecting major results with this one!
