Audi rendered with Arion
-
Hi guys,
Got the model from the 3d warehouse.
This is my first render with Arion and I have to say it's a very good bit of kit. The interface is nice and working with GPU is so much faster. This render was 20 mins and took about 5 mins to set up with the materials.

oouch!
its funny, i remember a time not too long ago when you couldn't get a renderer for SU. now you can't model a rock without hitting one. -
I know what you mean Xrok! Thanks for posting the link Solo. Since we upgraded the machines here we've been hunting for a GPU renderer that worked well with sketchup. I've been messing around with Octane which is OK, but still pretty limited. I'm confident this will be an excellent renderer but it's not polished enough at the moment, which you'd expect from a beta version. My main issue with it is the speed of texturing. It doesn't (currently) have pre-made textures which would really speed things up.
I'm really impressed with Arion, the interface is pretty slick, the textures are already loaded in which (particularly in my job!) is very useful. It's a bit twilight-like........if that makes sense. Click, tell it what it is, then move on! The difference is the GPU speeds things up so much you can make small adjustments as you're going along to perfect things which has always been a little hard for me in Twilight. You have to wait a while before you know what's right and wrong which is eliminated in this instance.
I'll post some higher quality renders when I'm more familiar with it. The gallery on the product site looks incredible so hope I can get something close to that soon enough
All the best guys,

Hi puck, did you purchase this without having a demo of it first?
I liked Randomcontrols fryrender, but they never seemed to put in the time and effort with the sketchup plugin so it always stayed at that 'beta stage' feel for me. SU was seen as a third rate app over there. Hope Arion turns outo to be much better for you as it looks great! -
Hi Cadmunkey,
The purchase was out of my hands so it was kind of slapped in front of me! I'd had a look over it and a quick play with the demo which got my thumbs up so it went from there. It's a lot of cash to part with compared to octane and twilight but if the boss has the credit card, that always helps
We just needed something that was going to push out good quality renders quick. Almost all of our work is with custom aluminium components which just looks horrible with a flat render so this fitted the bill after seeing the work which others had done in it.
The plugin for sketchup is particularly friendly, I've had no issues with it at all and it's very quick. It even imports the camera over for you so it can be a 1 click solution for the final render.
This doesn't feel third rate at all, top class product. The only issue we've had is the documentation, or lack of it! It's not a major problem but it doesn't have a great set of tutorials yet.

Thanks for the feedback. Dont hold your breath waiting for that decent manual for it tho
I might have to check it out. -
There are a few things wrong with this image and make it hard to judge the quality of the render engine.
There is not an environment to refelct so the whole model looks flat
Without an environment the model looks to be floatingI do not think it was your intention to miss these but by doing so it is really not a good representation of the render engine. We tested it and it was not the quality we were looking for so we gave up on it although I think for others it may work. It does have it's downfalls as a "hybrid" or "real time" renderer.

Hi Scott,
You're absolutely right. I guess it's like having a Ferrari and only testing it in first gear. With that in mind I've gone away and played a bit more with various scenes and have come up with the attached. I think these are a lot better representation of the quality of the render engine. I'd be the first to point out that I'm not the best at this in the world but I think it shows what an average user can create quickly and easily.
Thanks for your reply.
