The 'ICEtrek' Google Earth game (Beta) - We need your help
-
Hey All
Some of you may be familiar with our application, ICEvision. It captures your Sketchup pro model into a 3D video gaming world, and better yet, allows you to securely share your model around the world!
One of our developers has created this awesome game which allows you to fly around Google earth (embedded in your browser) and hunt for clues using ICEvision. But I think the best way to explain it is for you to have a go yourself!
http://www.ice-edge.com/icetrek/iceworld.html
You will need to make sure you have the plug-ins on the left of the page (and don't worry non firefox users, it should work fine) and read the instructions before clicking the 'click here' button to start playing.
This is very much in the testing phase, so please let me know what you think, any suggestions, criticisms, ideas, we want to here it all
Enjoy!
Andy

I finally got a chance to try this, and I gotta say I really enjoyed it. It was a tour of 6 famous works of architecture from around the world along with fun (and sometimes gruesome...the Taj Mahal laborers' hands were chopped off to prevent them from building a more magnificent structure in the future ) facts about each structure.
Some of the elements for the game didn't always render on-screen but still worked, i.e. the blue marker tower showed up about half the time, but if you navigate to the structure indicated in the hint (which is where the marker is supposed to be located), the game progresses normally. The "click to download" button for one of the tours didn't show, but I just clicked around on my screen and it eventually worked.
What I really liked about this game is that the IceVision tours were rendered right in the browser, hopefully this will make it easier for the intended audience to view them.
Good work, Andy, keep us informed!

I use Google Chrome, after the browser advised me to kill that page, I oppened a new page and the Java Script finaly oppened. Isn't this a little late?
-
that was pretty interesting.
this could be REALLY interesting to make for localized versions... I can imagine the Brazilian Education Ministry doing a Brazil only version, distributing it for schools and hiring me to make the GoogleEarth models

out of curiosity, any brazilian monument there?
I went through Sagrada Familia, Taj Mahal, St Basil Cathedral, Sidney Opera House, Eiffel Tower, that temple in Jordan, the forbidden city in Beijing... hmmm... thats what I remember...

Hey all!
Really sorry for the delay in this one, I've been out of the office soaking up the Canadian sunshine!
Thank you all for your feedback, because it's in beta it can be temperamental at times, but (as always) we are working on updating and improving it. You guys (as always ) will be the first to see!
Aceshigh - you mention you would like to see some Brazilian monuments in there! That's no problem. I've been told that if you can supply us a few decent models (you might have some favorites from the warehouse) we can make a Brazil ICEtrek for all to see!! and its great to read what use you could find for the game! Hopefully the Brazilian Education Ministry will get to see our Brazilian ICEtrek one day!
Thanks again guys!

Andy, this is extremely cool!
To me, the motion control feels a bit fast but I guess I am not used to those fps games either.

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
In the normal ICEvision app, you can adjust the speed. If and when this gets fully released, we will have controls for speed!
Anything you would like to see in ICEtrek?

if all these models are in Sketchup, i can't see why not Do you know if they are all available?
-
I made them, they are on my HD.
The terrain is pure GE import so they should be sitting there nicely (even the city wall). They are also modelled from inside however (with two exceptions).
