Window component
-
Hi everyone,
my question:
is it possible to place a window or door component in a wall with a thickness of let's say 30 cm, so the component will cut an opening on both the inside and the outside of that wall. (personally i think it can't be done)
But if it is possible in some way I would be able to make a floorplan, a facade and a 3d in the same drawing.
thanks

Hi Rodin, hi folks.
Directly no but with some tricks yes.
Why ?
Because the possible thickness can be anything. It would be difficult for the software to determine which planes are the outer one and which one is the inner one. This is specially true for composite walls where the modeler may have drawn the external finition, the inner framing and insulation and also the interior finition.
There are some possibilities with grouping two components that can each cut a single face. The grouping can be done after positionning them to cut the faces. The faces will be cut but the faces around the opening, between the two faces may not be closed. This may or may not present any problem however.

Hi Rodin,
See this tutorial/topic too for ideas: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=744
There is this 3D Warehouse model that also works this way: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=2d8578412680a3aec4922817757c112e (place the component on the wall and explode the parent component). There is also this video but that's cheating
