Export Ungrouped Mesh?????

If you paint different parts of an exploded mesh and then export it, other programs see that as grouped and allow you to ungroup...Is there another way to export as an ungrouped mesh??? It is way to tedious to use the paint bucket tool as I can't select all the areas I want to paint at once...
