SU + Modo + PS. Not quite perfect yet, but I kinda like it.

Very cool feel to it. The render could clean up a bit in the shadows but overall all its cool.

            @ Remus:

I knew I forgot the porn glands!

            @ Scott:

Yeah ... I noticed. Not sure how to improve the shadows. I'm still pleased, though, as this render is merely meant to be a reference for a drawing I'd like to do, and Modo did a pretty efficient job on it. (By which I mean setup and render were fast and painless. The SLIK + preview renderer combo kicks a$$. πŸ‘ .)

                A. There's something odd about the perspective in this that I like. Forbidding? I'm not sure. I think you've done this in other images.

                B. The way the top closest corner aligns with the bottom middle creates a bit of visual confusion that I'm not sure about.

                C. I've been on the fence about SLIK. Bought and paid for cadbuddy and a couple of other modo things so the bank account's a bit low. You like SLIK? It's useful? Makes lighting easier?

                D. I think the grey is perfect.

Actually, it isn't the alignment of the corner of the closest panel with the one behind it that bothers my eye, it's the dark shadow line under the left middle panel that's darker than the shadow line under the panel to the right of it that troubles me.

Talk about 'close criticism'! Maybe I should cut back a bit on the coffee.

I used Modo's orthographic camera. There's a ... stark clarity to parallel projection I've always liked. I always marvel at those manuals Ikea stuff comes with. 😳

Not too sure about it myself. I'll probably move the right bottom verticals to the right a bit. This sort of thing is where the preview renderer comes in very handy.

I do like it, yes. It comes with a bunch of environments that've really made things easier for me. Double-click one, check whether you like the result, double-click another one, etc. Real handy. But that's not why I got SLIK. Not in the first place, anyway. I wanted to learn about how photographers set up their studio lighting. Could've gotten a book or a video, but those aren't interactive.

Back to my chores now. 😠

                      Hi,

Are the 'Frames' of the 'Screens' slightly transparent? I don't know if it's me or if it's your render, but i can see internal geometry and geometry showing through where there are overlaps.

This is NOT a criticism, but more a query? I enjoy your posts and see similarities between this post and your previous. Same overall shapes coming through. Triangles, paralellograms etc.

On first viewing it seems simple, but more time invested yields more details and more appreciation. Again, this is only my opinion of your artistic style, which i like. I can't comment on your renderings as i don't have much experience in this area. But i imagine you spend quite alot of time with camera angles and lighting?

                      Thanks for sharing

To clear up those shadows, try raising the samples of the lights. The render times will climb a bit but it would be worth it for a final render.

                        Scott

                        Cool stuff that SLIK.

I plan on tracing this image to produce a drawing, so I dropped a line render on top in PS to facilitate the process. The internal geometry being visible was a side effect I hadn't anticipated, but I like it somehow.

Even if it were, that'd obviously be OK. People are more than welcome to speak their minds about the images I post!

I do. Though I obviously have no moral issues with using tools that make setting things up easier. I'm not a masochist. β˜€

Ah, yes, but you see, I've lit this using one of the environments (so that would be an hdr, I guess) SLIK comes with. I'll have to do some poking around in Modo somewhere next week. Should prove interesting.

                            Enjoy the weekend, everyone.
