The Samson - Avatar Movie 2009
-
Yeah just having a telescopic boom. Already tried it out and it works. As for the door gun got sent a few pics and I did well in what ive done but off on a few aspects. As you can see form the shot its got 3 barrels and each one is fed from a separate ammo belt. Also my version was upside down lol. Nearly finished it now so ill post the new version soon.
EDIT: here it is so far, the ammo drum will be inside the samson. Didn't like the stock on the movie one so ive gone with a more precise one based on a rifle, this allows the gunner to get down and be more accurate. My gunner will be inside the samson shooting through a small opening not exposed like the one shown in the movie still.

Must'have forgot about this, and I missed out on a lot.
GREAT JOB MAN!

Really great modelling you set the bar very high....good work
-
Well just wrote a big long list of stuff clicked post and I had to log back in and lost it all stupid site .
Anyway to sum it up: Yeah thanks dolphus your latest train is pretty cool you 'HAVE' to get somebody to render this one!!!
Basically ive spent ages doing 'lots of tiny adjustments that are barely noticeable but are a pain in the ass and take F******* forever' to the model so I thought I would post it as it stands now. Going to work on the landing gear and countermeasure suites later today.
-
Wow, thatΒ΄s pretty scary, dude!
Magnificent work! -
thanks!
Well did some more work no time for a render tho as im going out, but managed to do the nosewheel, chaff/flare dispenser, gunner hatch, communication ariel, cover holes in geometry, cable guards above cockpit and rotor housing and thats about it. Here is the regular SU output.

Better and better ...way to go
-
originally the cockpit windows didnt have to be in line for the pilots as they would have a full wrap around holographic display and helmet HUD's connected to the cameras outside. However it did look a bit odd so ive raised the cockpit area up a few feet so that the pilots can now also look straight ahead and side to side, just makes sense I suppose and redundancy incase the holo display failed or cameras broke?
-
Well the model is mostly complete now, just need to etch in a few panel lines and a few minor details I would say its about 95% done soon ill be moving onto the textures. Anyway here it is so far:
-
Excellent,Liam...can't wait for textures
-
few cosmetic changes still patching up the geometry in places but nearly done with the modelling side now!
-
Very amazing film! Avatar is the story of a parapalegic ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit Pandora, an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity.
-
Wow Liam - Mate do you eat gun powder for breaky? That's a STACK of work to undertake as a personal project!
Freakin well done though!
-
Looks amazing, serious modelling skills at work there!

Just found this thread (because of the previous post).
Very nice work I love detailed models, and this certainly qualifies. Did you ever get around to adding the textures?
I just got around to seeing the movie a couple of months ago, loved it. Unfortunately I watched it at home, no hi-def or 3D, so I undoubtedly missed a lot, but still it was a very good movie. Someday I'll move up to whatever century we are now in. Maybe. Probably not

Well I went away from that design and went for a Navy version of the one from the movie, you can see it in this thread: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=333&t=18543&start=285
As I was making so many things that are on going I put everything in one thread rather than having multiple open ones, Sometimes I may work on 4-5 models at one time so no point cluttering up the forum.
Wow thats a year old, just noticed!!
