Half of models disappears on near distances

I was playing with a model of rome, and when rescaled it to about total 2m width, half of it disappeard on near distance and low angle views, would anyome figure out what is happening?
field of view is 30 degree and doesn't matter on 35 or 25!

That is still clipping (and fixing the FOV does not necessarily help). Are you not in Parallel projection by any chance? What about the (original) world origin? How far is it to the model? Any stray geometry far away?
