Ive tried it a couple of times but i always found i needed it in full tablet mode for it to be comfortable, which meant i couldnt use the keyboard for shortcut keys which slowed me down a lot. If youve got a desktop setup with a keyboard plugged in i imagine you'll have more success though.

I suspect that using a tablet in place of a mouse in a way that could benefit SU users is not too productive since SU has a relatively small number of commands when compared with most CAD program. A tablet is very helpful when the on screen menu require many levels in order to access commands. In addition, to my knowledge no one has designed a efficient tablet menu for SU. Please correct me if I am wrong.

now that you mention it, i can see the limitations of using a basic tablet for sketchup.
I've always seen there being a benefit to a tablet/multitouch system for use in drafting and engineering. the trick, as you brought up, is the interface. Especially when it comes to the need for alternatives for the alt/ctrl/shift keys.

are there even tablets that can combine multitouch/pen inputs?

I don't think that the kind of tablet is a problem. I use an old 12"x12" kurta, that can respond to a multi button mouse. My cad menu consist of a small drawing area, standard CAD functions, and a area for custom commands. My pointing device is a multi button pen.

The system can be configured to replace a mouse with the pen for other programs, but I do not use it that way as the pen is harder to pick up then reaching for a mouse when switching from the keyboard.
