Rugby World Cup 1995

Now I have heard everything:
Clint Eastwood (now known as Klont Oosthuizen) - has made a movie about the 1995 Rugby World Cup complete with Francois Pienaar and Joel Strafskop.

I ran out and saw the movie last night. I thought it was very good.
One of my motivations to go see it was that our chorus is going to sing "the song" from the movie. But I don't which song they are going to sing. The S.A. National Anthem might be a choice. But there were 3 or 4 songs floating around in the movie.

I was at the game, the final against the All Blacks (New Zealand) at Ellis Park.
What a day, took a week to recover. -

What a day, took a week to recover.I was thinking about you during the movie. (Wondering whom I could ask about the whether the movie was accurate and what is going on in S.A. today.)
There is a lot I don't know about S.A., and this movie gave me a real insight into the challenges Madiba must have had trying to hold the country together.
If he was anything like the character in the movie, he must be amazing.
I do have one question. The national Anthem that the players were hesitant to learn... Was that the "new" Anthem, or the old anthem? And was it the same anthem being sung before the game (3 years later). And why wasn't nelson Mandella singing the anthem? (actually that is three questions)

Al, I have not seen the movie, I do not normally watch movies about South Africa made by Hollywood, Hollywood tends to make opinions and create heroes and martyrs.
It was a very difficult time, adopting to a new flag, a new anthem, new names for cities, provinces, airports and suburbs, some of which I cannot even pronounce.
Winning the world cup, united the entire country for a day or so...then things went back to normal.

Hope I didn't dredge up too many old memories Solo.
I have been trying to figure out Rugby - just from watching the movie.

You can only pass sideways or backwards.
(They told us this in the movie) -
Apparently you score 3 points every time you kick the ball through the goal posts.
-
Sometimes there seems to be a free kick - (because of penalties, or perhaps scrums which last too long?) - and sometimes a player just drops the ball and kicks it.
-
Then there is this scrum (???). The players lock shoulders with the other team, the ball is inside somewhere. The ball comes out of one end. Someone grabs it and then play start again.
Can you explain more about the scrum, and the game itself.
(I suspect you are a big Cowboys fan now and have forgotten all about Rugby)
