Draw on Terrain
-
Hello together,
i have an urgent question:
I imported a snapshop from Google Earth in Sketchup , then toggled the terrain and exploded it. So i have a TIN (triange model).
Now i wish to draw a road on that terrain. But when i tried that, the road and the terrain intersected and my road has gaps in it and i cant build a face of it. Can anyone help me and tell me how i could draw the road or a rectangle on the terrain that it adjust to the terrain, and not intersect. Thanks a lot

Hi Dougilli,
Best would be to draw your road (and actually anything else) on the flat "Snapőshot" and then use the drape tool to drape (kind of "project") these lines on your GE Terrain. It is not easy to draw on curved surfaces (although you can turn hidden geometry on and there is also a cool plugin to let you do it but this method would be the easiest).
First you need to enable the Sandbox tools:
http://download.sketchup.com/sketchuphelp/gsu6_win/Content/P-Terrain_Modeling/TerrainTool-Intro.htm
then this is how the drape tool works:
http://download.sketchup.com/sketchuphelp/gsu6_win/Content/P-Terrain_Modeling/TerrainTool-Drape.htm(And I added you to the German usergroup so you can see the German subforum at the bottom of the forum index)
Welcome BTW...

Hi
Thanks a lot for the help!!,Im not really into how to use the drape tool yet, but im trying. Is there any plugin maybe which let me select a face and project it then on the terrain?? like i draw my roads etc. on the flat snapshot like u said and then select all and then place it on the terrain somehow ??
I can see the hidden geometry, but still hard to create faces on it.many thanks

That's exactly the drape tool (and after all, it's actually a plugin)
