I have been using Sketchup 6 Pro for quite some time and I am Mac based.

As much as I love my Mac, there are more opportunities for plug ins and other related 3D programs within the PC environment.

I have installed XP on my Intel Mac, and want to know if anyone knows if I can upgrade to Sketchup 7 on the PC platform from my Mac Sketchup 6 license?

...or do I have to buy another license.....groan.....

I might be wrong, but I think that you can do that if you contact them directly. You will have to pay for the upgrade, but you should be able to switch to PC from a Mac for free. But I could be wrong. Try emailing support or sales directly.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

AFAIK there is about $50 switch fee between platforms. Now what I don't know is whether you can make a bargain with the upgrade and the switching so that contact would be better.

          Hi Hombre,

Chris and Gaieus are both right, there is typically a fee of $50 to convert your license from one platform to another and you have to call in to make that change. However, when you're upgrading from one version to the next we'll wave the conversion fee since you're already paying for the upgrade. You can call in to make a license change at (303)245-0086. If you make the change hate Windows or miss OS X you would have to call in again and have to pay $50 to change it back.

          Hope that helps,
          Jody

Thanks Jody for the generous offer - but at least seriously for the clarification - I will make sure to make my switches to OSX and back to PC when I upgrade anyway!

Thanks to everyone for the information..this forum is so helpful!

I LOVE my MAC and have been with them forever, and I really dislike Gates system, but I'm a bit tired of the 3D programs always being introduced in PC form and waiting for years for it to show up in MAC form.

The good thing is that I'll still be able to be an Empire renegade, running Windows on my MAC....that is unless my machine refuses to co-operate with an inferior system.

              🤣

Then I will have to buy a real PC and pretend that my name is not Benedict Arnold.

              🤢

But the best thing is that you can still use your older version license for the Mac as the new license is completely different and generally does not affect old licenses (or just hope?)

upgrading a license doesn't create an additional license...

...but installing a license on multiple own systems if using alternately only seems to be fine .
