Plane filling plugin?

Hi, I do alot of site plans and spend a lot of my time filling in imported autocad drawings to get road surfaces created etc...
I have just tried intersecting the plan with a flat plane which I have created on/around the site plan but sketchup has gone quiet/crashed.
Does anybody know of a plugin which can help?
Thanks for any advice or suggestions. I may have missed something really obvious to remedy this!
