VCB issue

The VCB/measurement box in 7.1 is simply not working in many instances/scenarios. Particularly in drawing rectangles and setting eye height. Totally unresponsive, value gets entered in the field but probably does not get picked up when you hit enter key cos nothing happens.
I'm on Mac OSX 10.5.8. Does anyone know if moving to Snow Leopard will solve this?

Mac users (as I have just learnt) have often used the VCB by highlighting it (clicking into it or using the tab to give focus).
Now with version 7.1, do not do it. With a rectangle for instance, just start drawing > type the values (into the "thin air") > hit Return/Enter.
