Arrange will not arrange??

Hi, I am new to layout and have struck a problem arranging the model in LO.
I drew a plan and painted the new walls black and imported the model as a shaded style which worked fine showing my black walls.
I now have the problem that I cannot bring notes etc forward, they seem to be masked by the white portions of the model, Is there something that I am doing wrong or is this normal?
A work around I have found is to have as a wire frame and drawer the walls in LO.
I think It was working with the notes in the front before, but I am not sure.
