LO Dimensions not snapping to section line
-
Hi All,
I am having problems snapping dimensions to a section cut line in LO. I have used the Sectioncutface plugin to create a face but for some reason it doesn't recognize the line. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Hi Stan,
As sections planes are not real geometry (but simply a visual "trick" by SU), there is not even a real intersection you could snap to (BTW you cannot snap to them - therefore dimension them - in SU either).
I know Dave Richard for instance uses TIG's plugin but the problem with the precision here could be that the plugin needs to move that face "back" a tiny bit in order not to be hidden by the section cut itself.
There is a workaround however (the same method I presume TIG's script is using somewhere as a first step when making the section face):
After placing the section plane, right click on it and "Make group from section slice".
This will create a group containing all the lines/edges the section cut goes through and as true geometry, although "invisible" (because the section cut just "hides" it), you can snap to it with the Dimension tool in LayOut. -
Gai,
Your a genius , you just saved me hours of experimentation to find a solution. I must say, I am really liking the capability of LO now.

Glad it helped.
A bonus tip of the day; put these section slices on separate layers so that you can hide them. They can be "dangerous" if you attempt an intersect with model or selection...

Gai,
Thanks for the tip, I am puting the section cut face and group from section on a separate layer so hopefully I wont have any problems.

That is strange that you guys are reporting this.... I can snap to section cuts just fine...

Hi Eric,
Also when the section plane is hidden (toggled off with the button in its toolbar)?
Interesting because over the Google SU Help Forums, it has also come out with this above results but then Sandra (in that "yet another" forum) also says she is able to snap but I cannot (and obviously others have problems with this, too).
