SketchUp 7.1?
-
New Video
Sorry Patrick for editing your post/topic - but [url=http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2009/09/sketchup-71-is-here.html:344jjraf]as Google has spilled out the beans[/url:344jjraf] already, I think this topic deserves to be turned into a global announcement.
And yeah, SU 7.1 (and especially LO 2.1) seem to be cool.

Looks like Sketchup 7.1 has been released http://www.archdaily.com/35869/google-sketchup-7-1-now-available/
Don't see anything about the fact that they are getting rid of dwg/dfx import. At least not prominently. I'll have to dig deeper to know weather to upgrade or not. -
Really, Google and SketchUP users are living in totally different worlds!!!
-
dwg/dfx import is gone from free SU 7.1
-
Nothing usable for me Google doesn't stop dissapoint me.
-
@Lastsoftware -- we need you back, urgent !!!
-
One point - there is really noticeable performance improvement!
-
I have been tricked all this time into thinking this was the sketchup users forum - clearly it isn't, otherwise I guess we would have been advised of this release. Still, it does look interesting, but I'll wait for all the fuss to die down before loading it!

Finally found it http://sketchup.google.com/product/whygopro.html.
This is the only place, I see, that they seem to acknowledge they took it out besides the blog post last month. If you missed that post your SOL.
Anybody found if you can install this version along side GSU 7.0? -
Sorry for next dumb question:
What is COLLADA file type and how a COLLADA file can be viewed/opened/edited without sketchup? -

you can now Import and Export in the COLLADA (COLLAborative Design Activity) format, a 3D file format based on open standards that allows you to easily work exchange information across different 3D softwares (Maya, Poser, 3DS Max, LightWave, Cinema 4D, Softimage XSI, Houdini, Blender, Modo, Strata 3D and more).
My question is: Where did Google announce Sketchup 7.1? ...its not on the Sketchupdate yet...

Ah, here's something official: http://sketchup.google.com/product/newin7.html

And the blog was just updated to show this:

There is also a Product Ideas forum set up here.

Well this forum is run by SketchUp users, not by Google. Do you honestly think they would let us release the news before they did? Plus they just announced it within the last hour.
This is not a paid for release either, it is a free upgrade. And the fact that they added a bunch of new features rather than just bug fixes speaks volumes.

Meh, Google Earth features. Just what SU users have been clamoring for. If anything the fact that all of the 3 features are GE related seems kind of self serving to me personally.
Oh well, I'll give it a shot. Hopefully the performance boost is noticeable.

The speed is way improved, try one of those huge models you struggled with previously....notice how it slides so smoothly now.
-
Handles large models better
Re-implemented the back button in the comp. browser
Dimensions in Layout
A couple of new Ruby methods
Photo textureing from Google Street View.
Collada supportSure collada leans towards Google Earth, but collada was not developed for Google Earth. Google Earth just happens to use it. And the other features are not really related to Google earth, except maybe the street view mapping. But that could come in handy for lots of urban designers/planners, just for use inside of SU.
Overall, I think its a great "point" update. Plus they have promised to support dwg in the free version through the end of 7.x.

Dimensioning in Layout was also added in 7.1, I expect it was added largely because of the input on this forum (Ok on the LayOut forum).
Also as an architect creating many site/context models in SU, being able to easy find existing 3DWH/GE buildings is a really nice tool. And making texturing/modeling easier when I have to make my own context is also nice. Even just pulling up StreetView as a visual aid to examine the neighborhood and distant views is nice.

Really? I didn't see this anywhere. I assumed this was the release they were talking about last month in regards to deleting the dwg/dfx support. If you look at the features list it looks like dfx/dwg is out.http://sketchup.google.com/product/whygopro.html I'm holding off on upgrading until I know for sure.
Can you install 7.1 along side of 7.0?
