Dimensioning the heights of sections on a wheel
-
I created a circle with a 22"rad. Pulled it up 8". Offest towards the inside 2" and pushed down that offset 3". Put a 5" hole through the center then grouped the whole thing Now I have what looks like the wheel off a locomotive. I want to dimension the height of each section. One should be 3" and the other 5". The only thing it lets me do once I select the dimenstion tool is the diam. Cannot get it to do the heights by hoovering, pointing or clicking on the edges or side of this object. even if double click to edit.
Appreciate it

Did you really make a section? Could you attach the model? (Surely the description is clear enough...)
Let me finish this animation export and will do it myself. -
Gaieus - enclosed the file "Unison Coupler" - should come up to the area I am working on. If not, look for the dimension lines I have added. It has changed from my original description - but still having the same issue.
I was able to a dimenson from a mid point up and a mid point down but not over all.
Appreciate it.

Ha. Sorry, I couldn't get back to it yesterday. Now what I did was to really introduce a section plane and this way align the dimensions to that (snapping to the "intersection" of the plane and the model).
Notice that I don't get what you expected - probably due to something you did incorrectly while modelling and didn't notice it.
Also, I'd call it a bit of inconsistency that the segments of the cylinders above and below aren't aligned to each other. It doesn't really matter many times but sometimes may cause problems. Also, there is something that's not aligned correctly regarding the vertical sides of the cylinders. If you zoom to the dimensions I added, you will notice that they "intersect" with each other.

Got it! I had not even thought of sectioning it in the true sense. I was using the term "section" incorrectly. This will work perfect.
Appreciate it!
