Cedar Shake Siding
-
Does anyone with experience with this sort of stuff know how much of an 18" inch cedar shake panel should be exposed?
Thanks for the Help -
I think about 1/3 of the shake should be exposed.

It depends on if they are used for roofing or for siding, and if the later if they are single or double course.
For siding:
Length...........single course........double course
16 inch..........6 to 7-1/2"..........8 to 12"
18 inch..........6 to 8-1/2"..........9 to 14"
24 inch..........8 to 11-1/2".........12 to 20"If your talking about pre-assembled strips, the manufacturer will have an exposure range, but typically a 18"x96" strip would have about 7-1/2" exposure.
For roofing, depends on the shake label (1, 2, or 3) and the roof slope.

Thanks, this really helps.
