Opening file after saving- colour disappears?

When i have completed my sketchup model of my garden, i had coloured in everything using the paint bucket. I saved it by: file>save as...>Garden.skp. However when i next open it, it is nothing like it was previously, it comes as a drawing with no colour and i am unable to get it back to how i saved it. What am i doing wrong, any suggestions?? Thanks
